Leyendo Juntos

Reach Out & Read

Modeled after the Reach Out and Read program in the USA, Leyendo Juntos aims to promote the love of reading, the love of books, and the number and quality of words that infants and young preschool-age children are exposed to in these formative years. New, age-appropriate books are given to every baby and child at his/her vaccination days, along with encouragement and information about the importance of looking at books and reading aloud to young children.

Bibliotecas Escolares

School Libraries

The Village School Library Project aims to enhance the educational resources in rural primary and middle schools in northwest Guatemala, providing library books which serve as a window to the world.

Lectores a Líderes

Readers to Leaders

This program targets students in grades 4-6 who need remedial help in order to get their reading ability up to speed so that they can continue on to middle school after primary school. Teachers zero in on specific reading deficits and work individually to help students gain confidence, improve comprehension and reading fluency, and motivate them to want to stay in school.

Minibibliotecas

Little Free Libraries

The Little Free Library Project is modeled after the program in the USA, whose purpose is to inspire a love of reading, build community, and spark creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world. We have taken this idea and modified it to fit the unique situation on rural northwest Guatemala.
