Clean Water
Preventable illness and parasites plague the communities that Casa Colibrí serves. Chief among them are water-, food-, and waste-borne bacteria.
Providing sustainable water filters to families and villages helps control outbreaks of worms while reducing the risk of sickness and death associated with diarrhea and dehydration.
Casa Colibrí is also partnering with Agua del Pueblo, an association which works to help rural communities build potable water systems and improve sanitation.

Construction

When the first medical team arrived to what would become Casa Colibrí, there was no road to the village of Nuevo Eden. The team carried food, tents, medicine, and personal supplies on a donkey track over a steep crest and down into town.
Today there is a simple road leading up the mountain to Nuevo Eden, one that full-sized pick-up trucks can use to drive all the way into the village. The Casa Colibrí clinic now stands on the far side of the town and is a central part of the community. Both residents of the community and visiting patients use the road on a daily basis.
Microlending
As in much of the world, Nuevo Eden and the surrounding communities are full of entrepreneurs waiting for the right opportunity to support their families through self-employment. Microloans allow community enterprises to develop, providing a pathway to economic independence for the community.
Even as health, wellness, education, and infrastructure act as kindling for change, microloans issued to help foster community businesses act as the spark for long-term sustainability.
